The Issaquah Spotlight

Building Community Through Knowledge

There was a good turnout of community members at the Save Issaquah Light Rail Community Meeting on February 24th. Council chambers were filled to capacity, and City Council Members were present as part of a Special Council Meeting (called whenever more than three attend an event per public disclosure R.C.W.).
Attendees were invited to deliver a public comment at an upcoming Sound Transit board meeting, write letters, and talk to their neighbors. Learn more: issaquahwa.gov/lightrail

Board to Decide Issaquah’s Future Soon

The voter-approved plan to build light rail to Issaquah — which local taxpayers have invested in since 2016 — may be cut due to Sound Transit’s budget crisis and Seattle’s growing demands.

Sound Transit is actively reconsidering how and when ST3 projects are delivered across the region. These decisions will determine whether Issaquah’s light rail connection is delayed indefinitely or even eliminated.

The Sound Transit Board wants to hear from you before making this important decision. There is a real risk that investments promised to Issaquah will not be built, and local tax dollars will instead be diverted outside of East King County.

“Some groups are advocating to no longer build light rail to Issaquah,” said Mayor Mark Mullet. “Now is the time for us to speak up. Each and every local voice can help shape the board’s historic decision.”
